Those visiting Cleveland may not know, but this geographic area is called the Western Reserve. Back when the colonies were forming, under the Articles of Confederation, before the Constitution was written, the tiny state of Connecticut was worried that they would be out-voted by larger states such as New York, Pennsylvania and Carolina. So, a portion of the rugged, unsettled, untamed Ohio Territory was relegated as a province of Connecticut, and it was called the Western Reserve. The people here have warm hearts, and a can-do spirit.
Because of our historical connection with Connecticut, it seems doubly fitting that Tres Dias – Cleveland was seeded by our brothers and sisters from the Fairfax community.
In 1994, a group of Pescadores came from Connecticut to host the first Men’s Weekend in Cleveland. That first Tres Dias was a result of seven years of prayers given by Rev. Christopher Taylor who was pastor of Highland Sixth Presbyterian at the time. The following fall, they held Men’s #2.
In the spring of 1995 our Connecticut sisters came to Cleveland to host Women’s #1. It was just as amazing as the men had said it would be. For a Sunday morning surprise, a group of men drove all night from Connecticut, one even rode a motorcycle. They surprised the ladies, then turned around and drove back. It was awesome.
Our Connecticut founders drove in again two weeks later to help us celebrate our first Secuela.
Every weekend we say, “That was the best. It can’t get any better than this.” And, every weekend the Lord does something new and amazing that absolutely stuns us.
During most of the first 16 weekends our brothers and sisters from Connecticut returned to be on Team with Clevelanders. We are bonded to Connecticut by history and by Christian fellowship.
Here on the North Coast, we have a can-do, pioneering spirit, and because of the love and palanca that nurtured us in our start up, we have come to have a deep sense of brotherhood and sisterhood with all Pescadores from all over the world.
